Naval Harpy Observer by Shabazik

The Battlecruiser Admiral Oyvald was one of an intended class of four ships (but ultimately only two completed)  designed for the Royal Degoland Navy.  Construction of the Admiral Oyvald Class commenced in 3115 A.a.H. in response to the continued expansion of the navies of the Joaqintopian navy.  Up until the construction of this class, the Degolandic Navy had never had an 'ironclad' capital battleship, its navy only oriented at protecting and policing its own coastal line.

As a pioneering design, the Admiral Oyvald inherited a number of features from earlier, smaller classes of Degolandic designs, such as a 'gun-deck' lay-out on either flank, supporting its two turreted main gun turrets.  However, it also suffered from a number of design issues, most important of which being its poor hydrodynamic hull-shape, which meant it had a relatively low top speed.

The first ship of the class, the Admiral Oyvald, was completed in 3123 A.a.H, with the second ship, the Admiral Luna, completed four years later in 3127 A.a.H.  However, due to budgetory reasons, construction of the third ship in the class, the Admiral Cyrti, was halted during construction after the hull had been completed, with the fourth planned  ship, the Admiral Seal, broken up for scrap as its construction was halted soon after the keel had been laid down.  The main gun turrets of both the Cyrti and Seal were later reused in a smaller class of battlecruiser, while their secondary turrets were used to reinforce Degolandic coastal defences.

In service, the Admiral Oyvald and Admiral Luna were primarily used for training and propaganda purposes, with their military effectiveness far exaggerated.  At the outbreak of the Anglasecuarnian Wars in 3139 A.a.H., both capital ships had become outdated, but were pressed into service nonetheless as the Degolandic Navy was heavily outnumbered by the navies of the Anglasecuarnian Alliance.

The Admiral Oyvald was ultimately sunk in a direct encounter with the Joaquintopian Navy, during which the Admiral Luna was severely damaged but managed to escape.  With its combat effectiveness compromised and new designs bound to enter service, the Degoland Navy ultimately decided not to repair the damaged Admiral Luna, but instead to beach her as part of the improved defences of the main Degoland naval base of Westerend.

Nice work; I could actually see this vessel having been built circa 1896 to 1906, before the game-changing HMS Dreadnaught was commissioned into the Royal Navy.
