Description

Brussels Merode station, June 25th 2014

Not as known as the main stations on the North-South connection, Merode is one of the 'invisible' stations in Brussels.  It only receives services during weekdays, but it is also one of the few stations which receives through-going freight traffic, as this kind of traffic is banned on most of the main lines through the city.

HLD 62 6237 first entered service with the Belgian Railways as a Type 212 diesel locomotive, numbered 212.137, in April of 1963.  When the Type 212 was redesignated as the Series 62 in 1971, 212.137 was renumbered accordingly to 6237.  It served with the Belgian Railways on passenger services until 2002.  During 2002, it was leased to ATCS, during which time it received a third headlight, the outlines of which are still visible underneath its windscreen.  Since 2003, 6237 is owned by Infrabel and it used on wharf trains.
