"Emergency Strip" (US Army Air Force serial 44-30852) was a North American B-25J-27-NC Mitchell III of the 71nd Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group based at Itazuke Air Base, Fukuoka, Japan in December 1945.
Thank you - but it might sound a bit odd to you, I've always felt the exhaust stains lacked something, they just don't look quite... right to me. But perhaps that's just me... >.<
I've seen a real Mitchell of the same design (12 forward-mounted guns). This variant was designed to sink ships just by shooting them over and over again. Quite the scary beast up close!
I know - I've only ever seen the 'glass nose' variant (solid nose Mitchell's aren't very common over here in Europe - but then again, Mitchells aren't very common over here at all), the idea of staring down the barrels of 12 0.5s is surely scary...
Even more frightening when the guns are mounted on a dark-blue monster named 'Devil Dog'. It was an attack plane for the U.S. Marines. 30 ground attack missions, and it sank two destroyers, a cruiser, and one or two cargo ships.
