A Year in Comics - January 15th

Day 15: La Mission Infernale/The Infernal Mission

Éric Poelaert was born on January 15th 1963 in Haine-Saint-Paul, near La Louvière in Belgium.  Learning the art of comics during evening courses, he started out by editing and publishing the review publication Brazil together with fellow students, before creating his first comic, 'Two Gentlemen', in 1997, signing his work with the pen-name 'Baloo'.

Baloo is an all-rounder - not just a comic artist, but also a scriptwriter and artist for comics by himself and others; as well as an author and illustrator of children's books.  His scriptwriting includes gag-strips for The Smurfs by Studio Peyo.

One of his more known solo works is La Mission Infernale, a parody on the war-movie genre, chronicling the mission of a crack commando team of Assault Elephants on a humanitarian mission in a war-torn African country, which was issued in two parts in the early 2000s.
