Description
Mariembourg locomotive depot, December 21st 2014
Parked up for the winter, ex-DR Rekolok 50-3696(-7) stands buffer to buffer with its former ex-East German colleague, the 52-467 (ex-52-8200).
Built in 1939 as Class 50 unit 50-193 for the Nazi-German Deutsche Reichsbahn, she ended up with the East-German Deutsche Reichsbahn after the War. In 1962, she was one of the last of two hundred Class 50s to be rebuilt by the Reichsbahn AussbesserungsWerke (RAW) Halberstadt; as a result, she was renumbered as unit 50-3696. Like most East-German Class 50s, her career was a long one, and she was only retired in 1989, fifty years after she was originally built.
50-3696 has been owned by the CFV3V since 1994, and has been retained in her DR-configuration. She is operational, and hauls trains along the CFV3V's museum line between the Mariembourg and Treignes stations during summer.
Parked behind her is a Brissoneau & Lotz-built BB63000-class diesel locomotive , built in 1956 for the French State Railways (SNCF) (also owned by the CFV3V)
