Description
Treignes station (CFV3V Museum Line), July 21st 2014
Part of the many experiments the Belgian Railways held with Diesel-driven units, the Type 608 entered service in the mid-1930s, to test the viability of light "autorail" DMU's on secondary and branch lines. Only six units were built, before additional, multiple-carriage units of different types were ordered. Fitted with a luggage/freight compartiment, Second and Third Class seating, and a cab on either end, the Series 608 would go on to see service until the last surviving units (as not all of them survived the Second World War) were retired in 1963. With her 'streamlined' look, the Type 608 was capable of a top of 126 kmh - even though this speed was rarely achieved during regular service on secondary lines.
Even though she is on display in the CFV3V's museum, 608.05 is still owned by, and on loan from the NMBS/SNCB.
