Description

Treignes station (CFV3V Museum line), July 21st 2014

Arriving on the museum service from the Mariembourg station on the other side of the museum line (former Belgian Railway line 156, closed for service in 1989), former Belgian Railways diesel locomotive 6086 pulls her train into the station.

The Class 60 was introduced into service in 1961 as a prototype: the first six prototypes had a different look to the later series production. The model was built by Cockerill-Ougrée in competition with the HLD 62 of La Brugeoise et Nivelles. Originally delivered as the Class 210 and 210.2, but later renumbered as the Class 60/61, the type was plagued by technical defects - mostly related with it being used for services it was never intended for - and due to its poor reputation, the decision was taken in 1984 to prematurely withdraw the type from service, beginning with the 15 Class 61s. The last of the 91 Class 60s was withdrawn from use by the Belgian Railways in 1989, bringing an end to 28 years of service by the type, although 20 were later sold to Italian operators, where some still remain in service.

No 6086 wears the type's last, high-visibility Diesel livery.  Delivered as 210.086, she was delivered to the Belgian Railways in November of 1965 and retired in December of 1988.
