Description
Dinant, December 29th 2014
I returned to Dinant - almost a year on from my previous visit - only to find a new sight.
On the occasion of the Centenary of the First World War - and the destruction of the entire city of Dinant by the German forces - the city now appears to have honoured its most famous defender, a certain Lieutenant Charles de Gaulle of the 33rd infantry regiment of the French Army, who was injured by enemy fire on August 15th 1914, just meters from the place where his statue now stands.

Viva La France! and thank God for a free Europe Wonderful post, and great description! I think this is the first statute I have ever seen of President De Gaulle as a lower ranking line soldier. Most remember him for freeing Paris from such a tyrannical grip, in 1944, and it is interesting to learn a little of his Great War experience
